Evening Melody

Something so preeminent,

Its grandeur is little, but far from unknown.

Its origin a mystery,

Its whereabouts are currently prone.

Can you hear it whispering,

Its melody velvet and soft?

A delicate sigh,

Above the gathering wind.

It calls you to come closer,

In the evening of the day.

Something inside warns you,

Yet you do not stray.

Closer you go,

The melody so beautifully sounding.

Where is it taking you?

Your heart starts pounding.

Then you see it.

Someone standing,

In the shade of a tree,

So seemingly demanding.

They are whispering the melody,

Beckoning you to them.

You try desperately to stop your feet,

But you only walk closer.

They cease the melody,

Seeing your frightened face.

You turn and run,

Only wanting to get away.

The melody was beautiful,

But something wasn't right.

They were so demanding.

That's why you turned in flight.

You halt dead in your tracks,

And for some reason you turn back.

They didn't want to cause any harm,

Or they would not have stopped.

You reach the tree,

To find that no one is there,

But the melody still echoes,

Suspended in mid-air.
