In the End

You feel the warmth of the sun on your face

As he chases the dog down the hill, you trace

The land with your eyes as he looks at you and smiles.

"You're too far away!" he yells

And the smile you give in answer tells

Of the worthwhile journey you took to get this close.

He walks towards you with soft bare feet

And puts his arms around your waist, as heat

Spreads up your neck towards your cheeks.

And you don't have to say it

Because it's in his eyes, the spirit

Of something you've always known.
