Enchanted Garment

Its simple parts cannot ever redress

The mystery that dances across its folds

Cloth and thread, no account for the success

Which strikes plain garment with magic untold

The power it wields to fully impress

A gaggle of women with gawking eyes

Who turn away, say they could not care less

Then secretly check the stores for their size

And who, after all, could truly assess

What transformation occurs when it’s worn?

A maidenly housewife now a princess

No longer life’s menial cares to be borne

How can it, nothing singular possess?

That wonder, that marvel, the brand new dress
