My head is tucked, nowhere to be found,
my hands clutch my backpack,
whispering fear -
my eyes hold the ground,
take in every crack,
every crevice,
every gap.

I revieve a wave.
I revieve a smile.
This friendly girl,
this gracious sould searching for a friend,
searching for a response,
for a return.

I life my head,
I lift my eyes,
I see faces that frighten me.
They are unfamiliar,
unusual - I feel foolishly alone,
trapped in a classroom of bodies and walls.

I unfreeze my hand and
return the friendly girl's wave,
return her smile,
and she is my bestfriend.
She teaches me how to live.

She teaches me how to be me.

I am no longer a turtle.
I am no longer in a cave.
I am hopeful.
I am a dreamer.
I am music,
I am art,
I am believing.
I am a swimmer.
I am dedicated.
I am smart.
I am crazy.
I am ambitious.
I will be kind.
I will be change.
I will be inspiring.
I will be help.
I will be brave.

In a world of others,
I will be ME.
