A Dream Yet Unrealized
Location
Nineteen sixty three was not an end, but a beginning
The dreamer proclaimed with an aspiration of winning
The ideal of justice - his movement’s priority
By challenging the views of the white-washed authority.
The dreamer dreamed of a day when people would be
Judged not on the color of their skin, but only
The content of their character, thus regarded as souls.
And while we have come far, we have not met those goals.
America: land of Obama and Trayvon
Where an innocent boy is shot down like a con
And our president honored – a symbol of how
“There is no racism in America, not here, not now.”
Sure, Jim Crow no longer exists in this land
But the color of your skin determines who will lend you a hand,
Or if you will obtain citizenship or a job that pays well
Because in our society, racism is hard to expel.
Our culture must be changed to achieve the dream
Of holding each person in a dignified esteem
To create a world where equality is for all women and men
We will truly achieve the dream only then.
