The Dragon

Location

Sweetly sleeping on a lake

A deep long breath I dared to take

I opened my eyes only to see

The dragon staring back at me

Slowly I rose up to say,

Please tell me what you wish of me

He answered with a low soft voice

And told me of a golden place

Where the trees are made of silver

And the fauns come out to play

In a meadow of sweet sorrow

As they bade farewell to the humble

Winds of winter that mussed the glittering leaves

He flowers made of my jewels

That shone in the ever summer sun

Emerald grass and ruby roses

Now hidden from the eye of man

Fallen under the spell of sleep

This hidden meadow has

His trouble was as he told me

Rousing the flowers and the bees

The fauns have not been seen

Nor the shine of silver leaves

He asked me to help him save

The only place that his home has been

For man has killed what he held dear

With flame and gas and greed heralding

We rode to this dream of a place

Where we only found a trickling stream

And as I looked into the water

I only saw my face.
