Don't Panic

No. No. No. Please no.My pulse beats fasterThe muscles ache in my palmsDon’t do this. Don’t cry. Don’t look weak. I clench my teeth, my eyes pull shutI feel the blood in my faceI feel their eyes on me My breathing turns from an ocean to a kiddie poolShallow, burning my eyes, stinging my throatI push to the top of the water but I can’t stay aboveI gasp for air and flail my armsWaiting for my panic to splinter and fall away My pulse pounds insideI can’t take this anymoreI open my eyes Wet hot tears fall all over my faceThis is the endThis is all I can take But I’m not drowningAnd the world isn’t endingBut for a moment, it sure felt like it was
