Dogs

Sometimes I wonder

if dogs are loyal to their owners

because they think that they owe them something.

Maybe dogs don’t realize

that fresh food and water

is a normality in the typical suburban household

that owns a goofy golden lab

or a yapper chiwawa.

Do dogs sit on command because they want a treat

or to please their master?

Master?

Do dogs feel like slaves to the human being?

Maybe dogs only like playing fetch

because they realize

that humans are also creatures of dominance

and dogs understand that.

They realize

that they are the only thing

that you truly have power over

and can make come back to you

with a single tennis ball.

So they abide to the rules of fetch

and the commands of the human tongue

but they know that they are in power

because they know how we are wired.

They spend all day observing.

They can smell our emotions from miles away.

and can sense when you are about to cry.

They can hear everything that we can’t, and some.

They know that they could tear through our flesh with a snap of their jaw.

They know that they are in complete power

yet they let us believe that we are

for the sake of our well being

and egotistic state of mind.

They want their humans to be happy and have what we want.

It has nothing to do with loyalty,

but love and respect for the human race.

So I often wonder:

why can’t humans treat humans the same way?

Tell doctors and scientists to quit their jobs

because we do not deserve to live longer on this Earth.

It’s the vets and adoption centers who are doing it right,

who spend time and money on

an animal who actually deserves

to live forever.
