Do You Hear the People Speak?

Location

Why are we as people so afraid to speak?

When we spend a ton of tax money to "encourage" kids to only think.

The essays, they are dreaded

The speech classes feared

Theatre is an art that’s dead

Our theatre at school has been commandeered.

The kids who once loved writing

Find it only useful in school

Useful to the dreaded essays

But they "guess the "A" is kinda cool"

                They don’t believe that writing

Is useful off the tongue

Unaware their words paint pretty pictures

Or are used in mass motivation

We need to become more candid

Without sounding like a bum

Our generation is making the excuse that our lack of speech ability is merely because we are young.

Too many letters are written or typed

And not enough calls

The less articulate generation in this case

Is the one taking the fall

The focus is on turning the writing into something fantastic

But the speech is becoming sub-par

Scripted and pre-meditated wording

Will only get one so far

While the writing can be fantastic

It is also easy enough to be used to kill

Spit fire typed insults

Will weaken anybody's will

We as a generation hide behind our wording

Behind keyboards and screens

We say- or rather type the words

But we can't see what they mean

                Without face-to-face contact

With spell check and "send"

The words are much to premeditated

And much easier to defend

                We are the generation

Of "Sub-tweets" and "nudes"

We don’t realize that behind a computer screen

Who's to know what's true?

We as humans fear too much

Too focused on our fault

With face-to-face contact, articulate text now in our mouths

Turns to the bitterest of salts

We need to gain the power

To turn written words to something good

Writing a letter or speaking at a Q&A

Shouldn't transform an eloquent writer into someone as eloquent as a piece of wood.

Now what I'm not saying is that your mind should spew all that should pass

You ought refrain from mumbling to your boss or teacher

"Kiss my ****ing (ahem)… glass"

You ought not to give up writing

For it can be something good

I've no other way to share this message

I hope that’s understood

For me, myself, I'm a writer

A speaker

And a reader

I love and practice all religiously

And for that

I'm a thinker
