Disguise

Lies that hurt, Tears that flow

A make-up disguise, with bloodshot eyes

She’ll fake a laugh, and put on a smile

They’ll never know that she’s in denial

Why does it matter? She’s never concerned

She knows there won’t be any lessons learned

She rarely cares, and always shows it

She’s lost in the crowd but nobody knows it

She holds back her tears, so they won’t see her cry

She’ll hide all of her fears, and continue to smile

Her life is a wreck; they’ll watch her spiral down

They’ll hope that one day, she might find solid ground

There’s nothing they can do, but patiently wait,

Continue their lives, and keep a steady pace

She never smiles, no longer able

Pops another pill, snorts coke off the table,

Smokes another blunt, and hopes she’ll be stable

They all try their best to convince her to stay

But she’ll never let anyone get in her way

As everyone watches, she ignores their stares

Avoids their comments, as her music blares

They try to get through to her, but she puts up a fight

Even so they keep hoping maybe one day they might

She looks in the mirror seeing her slim face and pale skin

Her eyes fill with tears and she cries once again

Nothing she does rids of the pain,

Not even the drugs or her words so profane

Still they all stare, but say nothing at all

There’s really no point, they just let her fall

Then comes the day when she makes that one call

The one that could be life changing, which might catch her fall

No one believes it, so none of them answer

They roll up their sleeves, saying no is their answer

She’s pushed them away, why should they care?

They’ve all had enough, it just wasn’t fair

They soon question themselves if there would be a point to help her

This could be their chance; they might get to save her

Is she putting up a front or does she really want help?

Based on her past, there’s no reason to believe her

They’ve given enough chances, why not ignore her?

Should they let down their guard and give her another?

The decision is made; it’s time to support her,

They’re all out of fuel but they’ll push a little further

In all of this they hope she won’t push them out the door

Because after all, they’re giving her just one more

The next couple of days, they move her around

They pick up her feet till’ she’s on solid ground

She begins to laugh, and she begins to smile

Although she still falls down every once in a while

She’s strong enough now to pick herself up,

She has a number of reasons to keep her head up

She’s come too far now to throw it away

No one will ever get in her way

This is her life, and at times it sucks

Sometimes it seems that she may just give up

Surprising them all, she works through her troubles

She’s now realizing that nothing is ever out of her reach

And she’s finally taking the lessons they teach

Her friends all support her

Her family adores her

Some people know absolutely nothing about her

Some of you may never know her whole story

But please keep in mind this is no reason to worry

Sometimes she cries, she has bloodshot eyes

She listens to lies, but she never denies

Her laugh is contagious, and her humor outrageous

She looks at her life and keeps turning the pages

No one has seen this side of her in so long,

If you think you recognize her you could be terribly wrong

When she smiles she glows

When she walks she knows

Exactly where she’s going to go

She never moves without direction

She keeps her mind on clear perfection

She’s a short slim brunette with eyes sometimes gold

Her personality is ever so bold

She’s kind hearted and cares

More than you think

Her heart is fragile

But there’s just one more link

If you ever wonder about her

Please keep in mind

That now when she cries

She wears no disguise

This is her story

This is my life
