When I look in the mirror I see what was.

I don't see what could be, I see what should be.

Then, I stood in the mirror and took a good hard look at myself.

Until I realized, it isn't what it's all cracked up to be.

The photoshopped pictures on magazines and TVs.

People only post pictures of what they want you to see.

I don't see the need to feed people with eye candy.

We shouldn't be filtering our eyes but our mind.

C’mon humankind!

Were too busy focusing on what's wrong rather than what's right.

Change the way you look at things and things you look at will change.

It's hard but you have to fight.

I look into that mirror every night.

I no longer see ugly popped blood vessels on my cheeks, but rather panic attack battle scars arranged on my face.

How I look at things made a change.

When I look into my eyes I don't see sorrow.

But rather the events that have made me who I am today.

Taught me there is a better tomorrow.

Like the surprise on my face.

When I found out the people are behind bars that robbed my aunt's place.

Its two years later and were still on trial.

I'm just awaiting my college money arrival.

But what's worse than money being stolen?

My aunt who is 84.

Has to barricade her doors like its a chore.

She can't get a good nights rest because she has dreams of my sister and her friend’s.

Doped up, breaking into her house again.

She robbed me of my future.

She’s my big sister, she’s supposed to be my tutor!

But her actions have taught me to never become a junky.

People will do very disloyal things for money.

Sometimes life throws you bricks, and sometimes flowers.

But remember, you'll always have power.

When I see myself, I see the ones I've lost and gained.

But in the end no one remains.

They will always be a part of me.

Connected like branches on a tree.

Behind everything, this is who I am.

I want to share my story, by doing slams.

Although my life gets hectic.

Everything I’ve been through has made me authentic.
