Thirteen years spent in school,
Working to receive a piece of paper and a handshake.
Always focusing and following the rules,
And near the end just trying to stay awake.
That one piece of paper is the key,
To the door that leads on to the rest of your life.
It will enter you into a world to get a degree,
Or maybe along the way introduce a husband and wife.
All that hard work will eventually pay off,
In college, a career, or both.
With a degree one could stave a cough,
Fix an engine, create art, or work under oath.
The possibilities are endless,
and the choice is of those.
Who choose to graduate,
Life opens at high school’s close.
