Dialogue No. 5

“At least it was interesting.” 

    Nicole and Charlie sat outside the impromptu concert hall, backs up against the red brick building. 

    Charlie ran their hands through the overgrown grass. “The drummers were good.”

    The silence wasn’t awkward, but rather a sort of peaceful calm after the decidedly disastrous concert that had ended moments earlier. 

    “The choir sounded better than they did in rehearsal.” Nicole snorted. The choir had sounded like dying pigeons in rehearsal, so it hadn’t taken much. 

    “They sounded slightly better than nails on a chalkboard.”

    “But they still sounded better. I count that as a win.”

    Nicole smiled lightly at that. “I guess.
