Demolishing the Wall of Hate
Naive
Trusting
Ignorant
Pretending that the voice attacking me
Was only the soft utters of a friend
Knowing someone for years,
But never truly knowing
Blissfully looking past the disguise
Looking past the hate,
Looking past the mask
Then, I snapped
Realization hit: these words were not from a friend
My comrade, my colleague
Was hiding behind a wall of hate
A wall she built
In order to protect herself
But that wall was cracking
I finally saw through the lies
Now I know,
Hate never truly dies
It was time to leave the wall behind
No crane was large enough to knock it down,
So I ran to save my mind
But as time went by,
The builder of that wall decided to try
Demolishing it layer by layer

Through this I learned,
You don’t need a crane to demolish a wall of hate
Kindness,
Understanding,
Empathy
These ingredients are the kryptonite of that wall
With perseverance,
One day it just
might
