A shallow river reflects sun-chilled souls
Within the scope of nothingness. Divine
Shall be the one who sees the deeper coals
That burn two holes in faces chilled with time--
A time or nine around the Earth gives weight
Beyond the blank and temp’ral face of men.
All life beneath the surface no more waits,
For the liberated heart babbles when
The strength of the river is rated first
Among the shallows on the banks of life.
Those deeper souls for love shall no more thirst
For all these deeper currents’ solemn rife.
Though I have swum far and wide and right through,
I fear I may drown in the likes of you.
