Dear Science

“Science [is] a harsh mistress, and in a pecuniary point of view but poorly rewarding those who devote themselves to her service.” --Humphry Davy

You may hurt me --
I don't mind.
Torture me for an eternity,
Break me until I cry.

Send me on a wild goose chase.
Bemuse me,
Abuse me,
Make me a commodity you'll misplace.

I'll devote myself to you nonetheless.
I'll happily work for you without any rest.
You may be an unforgiving field,
But lives are changed with what little you yield.

You're a striking work,
You're an exquisite practice.
I don't care if you're a jerk,
I'll commit myself without malice.
