Dear Reader

Dear Reader,
This is a first.
A first for you and a first for me:
I've written something for you,
And you're reading something from me.
I don't write to be read.
At least until now.
I write for the flow
of the words through my mind,
down through my nerves,
clearing me out,
down through my arm
and out of my hand.
It's like a superpower.
I can feel it
surging through me
and out onto paper.
It's a wonderful feeling
of focus and potential,
expression to no one because
nobody has to know.
Then who do I write for?
I write for the words.
It's just as much their pleasure as mine
to be in the other's company.
To write is to join,
to combine words,
to craft sentences
and construct paragraphs.
Words love company,
and I love words.
I suppose that means
I write for me, too.
For my enjoyment,
my companionship,
my power.
I write to release,
to let go,
and to move on.
I write to keep,
to hang on,
and to savor.
I write to continue forward,
and to bring memories with me.
And I write for the words.
