Dear Hero

Dear Hero,
When society envisions you today,
The minds of some tend to be led astray,
By wayward imaginations that often may
Include an ordinary being
Changed in an extraordinary way.

Dear Hero,
When many think of you,
They think of a super-powered being
Clad in red and blue,
Or a group of misfits who stick together,
And fight crime, too!

Dear Hero,
We love to imitate our perception
Of you and the many costumes you’re dressed in,
Holding conventions, parties, and more.
Doesn’t it all sound like fun galore?

Dear Hero,
Let us hope that people don’t forget
That there were many brave individuals who went
To fight and die for us in solemn events
Which we still regard with heavy lament.

Dear Hero,
Let us hope that this world understands,
That others like you are prepared without the slightest demand,
To defend those who they are trained to care for,
And to go to utter limits to save them, and more.

Dear Hero,
Let us hope that those who you protect realize,
That you are not defined by background, skin color, or eyes
But by the determination that you have to succeed
When those you protect are in great need.

Dear Hero,
I know that we sometimes see you
As a fictional character who always pulls us through
The many situations approached in life
But you are more than one who relieves us of strife.

Dear Hero,
You are one who cannot be defined very simply,
For your origin varies, and your colors are many.

Dear Hero,
You are more than what anyone would expect,
You are the very same people that you protect.
