Dear First Love (Super 8)

Last night of October—we lay on the floor
Warmly aligned from our shoulders to hips
By the orange soda fizz of a loud movie score
Last night of October—we lay on the floor
In the dusty blue attic beneath the trapdoor
Cheap Halloween chocolate smeared over our lips
Last night of October—we lay on the floor
Warmly aligned from our shoulders to hips

Last night of October—we lay on the floor
I can’t understand why you like me at all
Mirrored palms and crossed ankles, with mine over yours
Last night of October—we lay on the floor
I go through most days like a first draft of More
Jump at reflections, shout at poems, cry Fall
Last night of October—we lay on the floor
I can’t understand why you like me at all

Last night of October—we lay on the floor
Smart is for elders and kisses for betters
Last night of October—we lay on the floor
Under jump scares and credits the real monsters roar
And we talk and we touch, entropies of soft letters
Last night of October—we lay on the floor
Smart is for elders and kisses for betters
