Dear Depression

Dear Depression:
Remember me?
We used to be close,
but now I am free.

Those nights I spent
fighting for control,
at first broke me down,
but now I am whole.

You caused me pain,
I will not deny.
There was a point
where I thought to die.

You did not win,
though you gave me scars
that caused me to look
up to the stars.

You told me lies,
whispered them in my ear,
that I was alone,
that I should disappear.

But you were wrong.
I see that now.
So from here on out
I make a solemn vow.

No longer chained,
I fly higher,
rising and spreading
like a raging fire.

Dear Depression:
Remember me?
We used to be close,
but now I am free.
