the day you left

the day you left

the world still spun

precisely poised in orbit

and time.

no meteor shower or catastrophic event

molested the cosmic drab.

the day you left

we didn't make the headlines.

main street blistered and perked

with predictable insanity.

and I ached, stranded in that instant

knowing I would never breathe again.
