Dark Secrets

Location

What is it about the dark that brings out the secrets you hold so close?

When the lights turn off and crickets chirp,

When the hamsters start turning and the words flow like tears,

Is it because no one can see you cry when there is no light?

Or because you can’t see their face when you show your skeletons?

Most of us are afraid of the dark, does that make us afraid of our secrets?

Like the monster under your bed as a child,

The one that keeps you from stepping foot on the floor,

For fear of being swallowed whole by the things you can’t control,

But when the lights turn on, it’s as if nothing ever happened,

The light that makes the monster seem distant and well hidden,

What is it about the dark that brings out the secrets you hold so close?
