Dairy Memories

Lips stuck together with dripping, sweet lipstick,

Face flushed with the kiss of remembered summer evenings

Nose colored in the ambrosia of July,

And tongue lavished with memories of two month friends.

Hands getting sticky with liquified summer mittens,

Stomach singing the praises that have not

Been sung for weeks—and for some months.

Chocolate.

Vanilla.

(Sherbet for those who know nothing of true joy.)

Pistachio.

The rest of the dairy rainbow.

Be it cone or cup, spoon, or the mouth’s worm.

Be it with the companions of the cell that is

Guarded by the omnipresent homework,

Or as an individual that lives life skipping in the clouds and singing with the birds.

The agonies of nights started at the full height of the moon,

The struggles of muscle stringency due to the wardens of your day-time cell,

The weight of the potato sack that reside below one’s pupils;

Respite is a lick away.

Joy.

Summer.

(Sunburns for those who know nothing of sunscreen.)

Temporary “best friends forever”.

The rest of the sun painted rainbow.

Respite is just a lick away.

Chocolate with chocolate sprinkles.

Vanilla with fluffed cream.

Pistachio.

School can just be licked away.
