Crumbling Faith

Location

They tell me who my God is

But how can they know my God

When they do not know me?

They tell me why to follow, to obey, to submit

The scriptures and holy texts are law

Unbreakable, unforgiving

They tell me how to pray, to think, to believe

My sinful heart is not my own and must be guided upon the righteous path

Unquestionable, unthinking

They tell me what to say, to love, to hate

Only the chosen people can hope for salvation

Untouchable, unaccepting

They tell me who my God is

But how can they know my God

When they do not know me?

My God is my own

He is my will

My will to live, my will to act for myself

My God is my own

He is my mind

My mind to think for myself, my mind to speak for myself

My God is my own

He is my heart

My heart with which to love, my heart with which to accept

They tell me who my God is

But how can they know my God

When they do not know me?
