Of Course I'm a Girl

“You can do anything you want with your life.”

Of course I can.

It never occurred to me that there was any other option.

“You can’t sit with us, you’re a girl.”

Of course I’m a girl, what does that have to do with anything?

You better shut your mouth before I make you.

“I don’t want her on our team, she plays like a girl.”

Of course I play like a girl, I am one.

I run faster and throw better than half of your pathetic team.

“Good thing she has a brain, she sure as hell won’t get anywhere with THOSE looks.”

Of course I have a brain, I’m human aren’t I?”

I want to see you cringe at the look I’m about to give you.

“A scientist? No one will take you seriously sweetheart.”

Of course they won’t if I give up.

Has everyone forgotten Marie Curie?

“Now come here and give me a kiss.”

Of course I will, I’m too scared to defy.

I can’t wait for the day my body will be my own.
