cosmic girl

Location

Round and starry eyes watch, unblinking,

And catch my reflection in places unexpected

In the pallor of a half-moon and in telescopes

When I'm alone I can see myself perfectly.

I'm a comet hurtling through space, pieces breaking off and crumbling

With every planet that I pass I lose more of myself

But I forge on, leaving this dusty trail behind.

Without makeup I can see myself perfectly, pulling the hair away from my face

A mouth that does not speak

Bigger than any galaxy, stretched farther than we can see

Still, I have traveled a long way to see this eroded cosmic anomaly, these craters;

When it crashes finally you will see me the way I see myself.
