A Compromise

I traded all my sanity for love.
A glance, a test, a terminal mistake;
My guilty conscience fits me like a glove.

The glance: gazing into eyes I have dreamed of.
A stomach flip, a heart starting to ache;
I traded all my sanity for love.

Bade an adieu you were undeserving of.
The test of Time, you tempted me to shake-
My guilty conscience fits me like a glove

I showed you lions when you gifted me a dove.
Harsh, cold, silent- the next of my mistakes.
My sanity, I traded you for love.

My truest desires I couldn’t get a hold of.
The walls of common sense can easily break;
I traded all my sanity for love.

It was not only you I was thinking of;
Life’s battles left me sleeping wide awake.
Perhaps I would not have sent myself above,
If I hadn’t left my sanity for love.
