Completely Ridiculous
If I could change only one thing
About the whole entire world
Man, that’s tough
There are a lot of things that need changing
There are a lot of people that need changing
So only one thing, then. Well,
It’d have to be something crazy
It’d have to be completely ridiculous
I’d make the grass purple
Yes, I’ll make all the grass purple.
I’ll change it at midnight
Then tomorrow when the alarm clocks ring
And everybody falls out of bed
And mumbles their morning prayers
And whips up their cup of coffee
And gets all dressed up and fancy
And runs outside to beat the traffic
They will halt for one moment and stare
My lawn is PURPLE!!
They will look across the street and see
Their neighbor is also in admiration
Hunched over the grass
Caressing it with his hands
With confusion on his face
He will look up seeing his neighbor and smile
And give a laugh, or a friendly comment
Now that he found a reason to
The smile is echoed by his neighbor
Being the first thing they have shared
In who-knows-how-long
Are you seeing this?
They will talk about it on the radio
They will talk about it in the streets
At work, on the bus
On the TV, everywhere
All the kids will run and play games in the purple grass
They will imagine who could have done it
Everyone will talk and share laughter about the purple grass
And for one day
You and I will have something in common.
It’d have to be something crazy
It’d have to be completely ridiculous
I’ll make the grass purple
