Comparison

 Numbers 20:8 & 11     New English Translation

8 “Take the staff and assemble the community, you and Aaron, your brother, and then speak to the rock before their eyes. It will pour forth its water, and you will bring water out of the rock for them, and so you will give the community and their beasts water to drink.” 11 Then Moses raised his hand, and struck the rock twice with his staff. And water came out abundantly. So the community drank, and their beasts drank too.

He should have touched it

Moses spoke rashly through his thoughts and hit the hardened clay

Moses consequently sinned then like I seem to do every day

Moses did not move the flock unless he talked to the Lord and prayed

Moses so grew in strength in every way while I mope and play

The Holy Spirit provided him with much power every day.

I ignore the Spirit often and move by what I think and say

Moses gave his life to them who rebelled with many arrays

And I don’t care about the lost that I run into day after day
