Companions

Before I frolicked with the seniors,                                a

Seemed they all so tall and kind.                                    b

They held a certain calm demeanor,                               a

Soon enough they all resigned.                                       b

As years went on I grew confined,                                  b

My comrades move along in life.                                   c

My darkness showed how I was blind.                           b

I seeked escape from grueling strife.                              c

But wait! A shimmering bright horizon                         c

New allies to help me win the fight                                d

The light of hope now was rising                                   c

To banish away the shade of night                                 d

These new comrades were not the same                        e

They treasured me and showed no shame.                    e
