Comfort Zone

A few years ago, I would not have approached the teachers at school.

I would not have asked them, "How are you today?"

I would have smiled, looked down, and walked away-

No, this wasn't because I thought I was cool

In fact I was actually super shy.

I acted like this 'til I met my swim coach.

He mentored me, and showed me a new approach.

That is when I told my shy, old self, "Goodbye!"

My eyes were opened from that moment on,

"Nothing great happens in your comfort zone"

His words to me helped me become my own.

For me, it is the start of a new dawn.

And that is how a year or two later

I have grown into a person so much greater.
