Colored or Not
Dear Colored People,
Colored or not! We are people and should be treated as so.
Colored or not! I still have to take on the many challenges that come within a day.
Colored or not! I was born. Not with the word "black" stamped on my forehead.
Colored or not! I live and learn. Same as you.
Being black, we are labeled with many names:
Ghetto, Loud, Boujee, Negro
Or as we like to call it...
Nigga.
We are so caught up in this day in age that we have lost ourselves. Our ancestors fought to get that "name" removed
from the white man's mouth and now here we are using it on the daily as if this word has no past. Our race is
degraded by ignorance and by a word that we think has no meaning.
Colored or not! The N word is not my name.
It seems to me that when people hear the word black, they think of the term ignorant.
And that makes no sense being that black women are the most educated among the U.S.
It is as if we are the enemy simply because of our color. I was born this way. What do you want from me?
We are still climbing to raise the bar for blacks.
Colored or not! I'm still getting my education.
I guess being lightskin is still an upgrade.
People look and say, "Oh, look at her, she has to be mixed."
Yeah, with black.. black.. and blacker.
People think that because I maintain my posture and speak with sense that i can't possibly be black.
Well I am.
Colored or not! My mother taught me better.
Our race is lost..
We are lost yet we still fight even though we are low.
Everyone seems to be against our flow.
But I am here to let you know
that we are together on the grow.
Colored or not!
