College Funding - A poem by Ken

I'm a young, black girl trying to go to college

Didn't do well on the SAT, but has extensive knowledge.

Scrolling for scholarships, searching for dollars

Don't meet the requirements, my pockets holler

Been looking around for a couple of hours

My dad's not a veteran, i'm just a black scholar.

I'm a young, black girl trying to go to college

Has a passion for psychology and they don't acknowledge.

Says my major's not a STEM

But it's mentally helping them

Now my future's pretty dim

Cause my major's not like Jim's.

I'm a young, black girl trying to go to college

An HBCU is a dream, but my money is bondage.

Trying to stay afloat; however, it is keeping me hostage

I don't even know if my financial aid is solid.

I'm a young, black girl trying to go to college

It's just hard cause debt is constantly banging my conscience

A heavy topic

Cause I know a degree isn't a promise

However, America is greedy and making us pay for nonsense.

I'm a young, black girl trying to go to college.

Trying to have a future, make an impact, and spread my wonders.

Trying to build, give the younger generation all my loving.

I just need to figure out this damn college funding!
