Closing the Book

People want to get to know me
And that's okay, see
I like making new buds, but
Hold up!
People want to know more about me than I tell
And it annoys the hell out of me
Because I tell a lot
Nonsense sells where the truth does not
Gossip is hot
And it burns
When I can't earn respect from people that have learned me from the wrong perspective
It's hard to live in the lies that others have told
Their words are as heated as their hearts are cold
And I can't hold on
When my secret's out
When I'm not
But that doesn't stop them
From opening the closet when I'm an open book
I wish that people took
A second to ask
Rather than make an ass of you and me
Because there's more to me than what they see
