Clay

We all begin as lumps of clay

Shapeless

Colorless

Full of potential

I was a small lump

But I knew what I could do

I knew I had so much to offer

And with that thought, I grew

I was molded by teachers

who gave me my knowledge

I was shaped by my peers

with me until college

But most of all

I have you two to thank

You helped me to stand

progress through the ranks

Once a lump of colorless clay

turned into someone like me

A person who follows example

But still goes her own way

You helped me to flourish

I could not be more glad

To have you two angels

As my mom and dad

This poem is about:
Me
My family

I just thought that what better people to mention when I speak of who shaped me this past year than my own mom and dad. No one has been as influential to me in these past 18 years than these two. I am going off to University in the Fall, and will be without them for the first time in my lifetime, and I don't know what I am going to do without them. But they have raised me to be independent and to prosper on my own, and I know they have prepared me well for that. That doesn't change the fact that I am going to miss them tremendously, though. I wrote this to thank them for all of their guidence through my years, and that I love them very much.
