The City of Dreams

Location

New York
United States

I moved to New York with a head full of dreams

Left behind what I knew and was scared to face my fears

I told myself "isn't this what you wanted? Why are you afraid?"

I finally understood the changes that had to be made.

I could no longer live in my bubble. It was time to grow up.

The girl from the foreign country had to step up.

No more comfort, only hard work and grit would help me

I had to survive in the concrete jungle before hardships could devour me.

It has been difficult. I always knew the price I would have to pay.

However, I never thought about the sacrifices that needed to be made.

Getting in debt to chase after ambition, losing those who once were close to me,

Everything of which I had to let go to get here.

Was it worth all of this? Sometimes I wonder.

I am not sure yet, but I will not give up and I will get there.

I lost my way once and let other things lead me astray.

No more games - I came here for success, not to chase after money and fake friends.

When I look at the skyscrapers, the streets, and the people in this place

I realize this was the right decision to toughen up and change my ways.

I am no longer that deer-in-headlights looking girl. This city killed my naiveté.

I will continue to pursue my dreams in the city that is designed to crush them.

New York, why are you so cruel sometimes?

You are beautiful beyond comparison. You have so much good to give.

Nevertheless, you are ruthless and only those who change will survive here.

I was born in Rome, but you made me who I am today.

I am thankful for all the lessons you have taught me the hard way.

I have no time for self-pity, since you showed me I always choose fight instead of flight.

I will do whatever it takes and overcome any obstacle to get what I want.

New York, you will see me thrive.

I love you, even though I hate you sometimes, but I will not leave and you will be mine.
