A Child's Place

A Child’s Place

Stay silent in the back, keep your mouth closed.

Keep your arms at your sides, don’t you dare fight.

You’re too young to know what’s wrong and what’s right.

Whatever the adults say, that is what goes.

When they are speaking, you must keep it that way.

Sew your lips together with fine, red thread.

It’s best to keep your thoughts inside of your head.

Nobody cares about what you have to say.

Young and naive, easily manipulated by haste.

What do you know but a child’s own thoughts?

Head down, deep breath, do what you’re taught.

On your way out, remember to shut the door.

When you’re older, we can discuss this more.

But for now, take heed and remember your place.
