when asked about childhood, i would probably say
the adventures i had when i was six and seven on calm summer days like helping him sneak in
when no one else was home
then like a secretary i learned to answer the phone
climbing every tree though i had bruises on each knee
walking to the store when I was not allowed to open the door
dancing in the sparkling rain with no shoes on
running in the dark forest though it was forbidden
like a fortress that needed exploring
riding my bike past the big dog, with my head held high
lying to get into big kids camp
crying because ET frightened me
eating sweet peeled apples, and taking midday naps
and dreaming of far off places before i could spell the word distance
back when watching the price is right with grandma
was the bane of my young existence
now I'm a little older, but i am still a child
and i hope i can make the last years of childhood worthwhile.
