Change: A Voice for Women Studying Science

Location

Change.

What would I change?

I’d change the ignorance that holds me down

The fact I’m a woman pushing into a men’s crowd.

Change.

I’d change the sexist words thrown at me.

Somehow my breasts prevent me from excelling

From even using a microscope correctly.

Change.

I’d change the perspective.

Flip the way they say I’m too pretty for the field

Cute girls aren’t supposed to be in physics.

Change.

I’d change the comments about how I dress.

I can’t be seen on campus in heels

Otherwise I’m too sexy to take on my science major.

Change.

I’d change the way women are treated in colleges.

In the science labs, across the country

I’d work to allow femininity to not be a weakness.

Change.

I’d change the sexist attitude.

If only it was so simple

I’d be able to stand alongside them, sneakers or heels.
