Change of Seasons, Change of Power

Fall has swept her scepter over the mountains

But the valley refuses to bow.

The aspens have acquiesced on the hills,

taking upon themselves the new coat of arms

but down below the resistance has continued.

The trees are sluggish to change their robes for the new queen

But slowly the resistance is crumbling

in the edges of the leaves

Talk of defection has begun

the wind is spreading the rumors,

persuading the trees with its chilly breath

The knights of the pinecones

are the only ones loyal

to summer

The wind, though it

is rebellious in the noontime,

upholding the dying reign of summer, it

cannot hold out forever.

All around us is the unseen fight

the foe a season

against the reigning king

of summer
