Can I have My Idiot Back?

“Can I have my idiot back?”

The smell of stale beer,

The stink of stupidity;

They assault me.

“Can I have my idiot back?”

The owner looks at me,

Gestures to him,

Forgets me.

“Can I have my idiot back?”

He stumbles over,

Trips over his feet,

Lands on me.

And I think:

Maybe I don’t want my idiot back.

He ruins my night,

Ruins my brother’s night;

Disappoints me.
