Caged Out

My life clock strikes twelve years.

I can’t help but hold back the tears.

My mother must go to a home that is no longer hers.

Leaving behind only a curse.

Back to her home land,

None of our life was planned.

Not for this, not for one last kiss.

All she will miss.

Mexican- American, a background too hard to bare.

Everyone stares, here and there.

Visiting what is said to be my home.

But even there we do not feel at home.

Family, though, after eight years,

Still cheers.

Becoming stronger than ever.

More clever.

Motivated by sending off a loved one.

Into another country that also has her shunned.

Motivated to bring her back into a better life.

That is my strive.

Witnessing her intelligence and strength

Shortening the length.

All through a phone line.

Mama, I will make it all align.

For you.
