The "C" Word

Location

It's a scary word to hear,
You wonder "what if" when you hear it.
After the diagnosis,
Everyday becomes a blessing.
My mom has cancer.

In shock, unsure of my emotions,
I recieve the news.
I see panic in my mom's eyes.
I see reassurance in her face.
My mom has cancer.

She stays strong for as long as she can,
But as treatment continues,
She grows weaker by the day.
Helping around the house is no longer a chore.
It's become a necessity.
My mom has cancer.

She's marked forever by it.
The radiation burns her,
The surgery scarred her.
And still she continues.
She continues her duty as a wife, mother,
And a fighter.
My mom has cancer.
