Burning

Tue, 07/03/2018 - 21:20 -- aml2003

shouldn't you burn the bridges between yourself and those who hurt you?

you can't let the people who can rip you apart get close enough to tear at your skin

you can't leave your heart and your life open to someone who has threatened to destroy both

the match is in your hand now, love

and the one who broke you apart stands on the opposite shore

but that person is the one who held you when you cried

the one who treated your wounds and taught you how to live that life and gave that heart the ability to beat

how can you drop that flame?

how can you turn your back and leave the woman who raised you in the ashes?

you have no choice but to spark that match and drop it at your own feet

because you would rather go up in flames yourself than make that choice
