Brown Spotted Brown Girl

Location

The tablet hovers before my face

And captures it with an audible click

a still reflection of me

will join a sea of photography

and my lungs are about to be flushed

with eyes that are thirsty for their

own admiration in comments like

"Stop being so pretty!"

I wish they  would say that to me

Brown spotted Brown Girl racked with pity

for her reflection in the sea

Chasing Sirens near the reef

 sinking into airless grief

I want to know the secrets of

 gaining everlasting love

Is it hair flows straight like an ardent stream?

Is it eyes that are grey like a sailor's dream?

Tell me, how do I

Lure a love that will not die?

Brown Spotted Brown Girl racked with pity

for her reflection in the sea

Tell me, do you think that we

are only pictures in a sea?

And that love is not for you or me?

When God in all his mercy and care?

Gave you something that you could share?

His Love which will never see death

and parts the sea to give you breath
