A Brown Leaf In An Autumn Breeze

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

never settling

never pleased

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

drifting

from one thing to another

always seeking

always escaping

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

journey's through the air

with great uncertainty

of the ever-changing world

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

colliding

with thoughts and memories

a bump here

a smack there

slowly breaking slowly fading

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

bitten by the icy wind

feels not

the Sun's life giving heat

but the cold

of a rigid winter's night

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

crying inside

with impossible tears

at the memory of being green and beautiful

joyous and simple

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

waiting

for the endless wind of life

to cease

to die

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

no longer hopes

no longer believes

no longer inspires

A brown leaf

in an autumn breeze

returns to its crippled mother

a stump

a distant memory

A brown leaf

without an autumn breeze

lays still in lively grass

sleeping for eternity

never to be animated

never to ride through life again
