Broken Mirror

We were born and raised in a society

Where our worth is determined by our waistlines,

Where the size of our butts are more important

Than the size of our brains.

Where we can’t leave the safety of our homes without makeup,

For fear of being ridiculed.

Where pretty is the price we pay,

To exist in this world.

Where the window of beauty we are forced to fit through,

Is often times shattered and distorted,

Shards depicting a beautiful girl,

With a broken smile.

Where the only place we can feel safe,

Is curled up in the skin

We’ve been taught to hate.
