I was trying to be conscientious to not think about you,

But after closing myself off in a personal quarantine for so long,

I couldn’t help but start reminiscing about our relationship.

I thought about how remarkable you always were, and are,

And I had flashbacks of all the wonderful times we had,

Being imprudent together and breaking the rules.

I thought about all the things we did,

All the nights we spent together,

And everything we told each other.

You were always an altruistic person.

You always cared about other people,

And never put yourself first, because that’s just who you are.

You cared about others,

But more importantly, you cared about me,

And you showed me what love was when nobody else did.

I never knew what love felt like,

Until I met you and until that night

Where we stood under the stars together,

Our hands intertwined.

That was the night that I knew

I was in love with you.

Then I threw it all away,

By being the most imprudent I’ve ever been,

And doing the most foolish thing

By breaking your heart.

What you didn’t realize, though,

Was that by breaking yours,

I broke my own heart in the process,

And now we’re both broken.
