Breakthrough
Location
It started with one person,
who refused to give up her seat.
It started with one person,
who dared to stand up and say, "I have a dream."
Slowly but swiftly it turned into a movement,
Until that dream became more of a reality than an illusion.
People being judged based on the color of their skin,
They thought and dreamed of a more united place for their kin.
They fought patiently, they fought with pride,
So that my brothers and sisters would be able to walk side by side.
Blacks and whites now together in harmony,
Finally seeing what was always there: equality.
They never gave up, they never quit
They had a goal in mind and they refused to submit.
Much pain and suffering was endured,
But their constant dreaming kept them reassured.
The struggle was real and the pain was felt
But no longer does the white man keep us under his belt.
Finally all their hopes and all their dreams came true
And here in 2013, I can honestly say they made a breakthrough.
