Bravery

It’s hard to rise again

After life has repeatedly punched you in the gut

Forcing you on your back in the most vulnerable position,

The wind being knocked out of you.

It’s a struggle to want to go on.

When everyone you try to help,

Ends up being the very people kicking dirt in your face

As if that’s all you will ever become

A lousy piece of trash

That shouldn’t be given the light of day.

But that’s perseverance for ya,

The bravery to try and try again

Even when it seems you will most certainly fail.

Because it’s much more satisfying

To know you have overcome all the odds

Than to allow the world to trample over you

Like a pack of wild wildebeests,

Rotting in its dust.
